Message to Parents
Welcome to Moose Jaw Minor Hockey's 3 on 3 Tournament! This tournament has 1 goal in mind and that's having FUN. Players don't always get the opportunity to play against/with friends due to differences in experience level so we thought this would be an excellent opportunity to give from various divisions a chance to play with one another. Please encourage your kids to play inclusive hockey and to give everyone a chance to touch the puck and have fun. The schedule is posted right now on MJMHA webpage, but I do have a couple of roster changes to make based on late additions, balancing experience, and making sure we have coaches on each team. So please check back tomorrow for final rosters. Goalie assignments and Sunday matchups will be posted on website as well: 3 v 3 Classic - Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association : Website by RAMP InterActive
For parents that said they can volunteer I'll send a volunteer list out before the weekend. Looks like we have plenty of volunteers so should be able to share the load for working the clock and being on the bench.
Message to Players
Be ambassadors for FUN. If you're the best player on the ice, make sure you’re distributing the puck to all the players on your team, and don’t be afraid to give opportunities to opposing players to get the odd shot and carry the puck up the ice. You'll get plenty of puck touches and shots throughout the weekend.
If you’re a bully, don't come! Bring the right attitude to the rink. Encourage your teammates and even your opponents when they make nice plays and when they make mistakes.
Keep the play clean! If you have a white & black jersey bring them. If not, we'll supply you with a jersey.
Message to Goalies
Thank you! We appreciate you being willing to play for all the teams! Try and get a stretch before hitting the ice. We won't have regular warmups for 3v3. Remember to switch sides between periods. The goalie schedule could slightly change, so be sure to check website games to verify your times. Please let me know if a particular time doesn't work. I'll try my best to switch games when needed.
Message to Coaches
Talk with each other. Balance your lines. Encourage your players to move the puck and let everyone have an opportunity if lines get unbalanced. If you have no shows don't be afraid to share players to even up the ice. Don't let the game get rough. Especially in the U13/15 division, we will have some experience and size differences so matching lines will likely be the best approach to allow players to play with/against players at their experience level. U13/U15 is no contact.
Message to Referees
Call penalties. Player safety is a priority. Quick whistles when goalies cover the puck is good (No need for net scrums). No need for faceoffs besides the start of periods. If nets get pulled in for U7 games, its probably a good idea to carry 2 pucks so when a puck gets shot in the corner (if the net is at blue line) you can just blow the whistle and throw another puck for kids to use in the play area.
Message to Volunteers
Thank you! We can't put events like this together without your help! In most cases we have more timekeepers than required. I have no concerns if coaches switch out to be timekeepers. Please discuss this amongst volunteers. I'll be around most of the weekend for questions or concerns.
U7 Specific
Feel free to move nets closer if the ice is too big! Might be best to move one net to blueline for games in Bert Hunt and leave them longer in Wally B. I'll leave this to coaches and volunteers to adjust as needed. Ignore the jersey comment above, we'll bring specific jerseys to use for U7.
Timekeepers
2 x 20mins straight time periods. We only have 2mins front and back of games to transition players. Goalies will need to stretch before jumping on the ice. Would recommend 130-2min buzzers for U7. At the buzzer, kids should leave the puck where it lies and let the next line chase it down. No reason for faceoffs besides the start of the periods. U9, U11 & U13/15 should be able to change on the fly.
Please update the game results on the tournament board after every game. Keep track of how many penalties are given to teams in case they are needed in tie breakers.
General Rules
Hope everyone has a great time!
