Player Evaluations 2026–27 Season
Moose Jaw Minor Hockey Association (MJMHA) uses a structured evaluation process to provide players with a fair and consistent opportunity to demonstrate their skills and to place players at an appropriate level for the season.
For the 2026–27 season, Hockey Saskatchewan will provide third-party evaluators for all Tier and House evaluations.
Evaluation scores will be recorded and managed through SkillShark, while TeamLinkt will be used for all individual player communication, group assignments and roster updates throughout the evaluation process.
This page provides an overview of what families can expect from the beginning of evaluations through team placement.
Evaluation Schedules
Evaluation schedules for all Tier and House divisions are posted on the MJMHA website.
The published schedule provides the dates, times and locations of evaluation sessions. Individual player assignments — including skills groups, scrimmage teams and, where applicable, Black & White teams — will be communicated through TeamLinkt.
Schedules are subject to change. Families should regularly monitor both TeamLinkt and the MJMHA website throughout evaluations.
How Evaluations Work
The evaluation process differs slightly depending on whether a player is participating in House or Tier evaluations.
House Evaluations

Tier Evaluations
Skills Session → Scrimmages → Black & White Games → Draft
Players who are unsuccessful placing on a Tier roster do not complete a second House evaluation. They will automatically proceed into the House team-placement process. This eliminates the need for players to be evaluated twice.
Step 1 — Skills Evaluations
Players will first be assigned to a skills group.
Each group participates in one skills evaluation session.
Skills groups will be released closer to each division's evaluation dates. Families will receive a TeamLinkt notification when their player has been assigned to a group, and the applicable evaluation event will appear in TeamLinkt.
During the skills session, Hockey Saskatchewan evaluators will assess players through structured, age-appropriate drills. Skills evaluations provide an opportunity to assess individual abilities before players move into game-based evaluation.
Skills groups are evaluation groups only and should not be interpreted as a ranking or indication of eventual team placement.
Step 2 — Scrimmage Evaluations
Once skills evaluations are complete, the results are used to create balanced scrimmage teams. For this reason, scrimmage teams cannot be finalized or released before the skills evaluations have been completed.
When scrimmage teams are ready, players will be assigned to their new evaluation team in TeamLinkt and families will receive a notification.
Scrimmages allow evaluators to assess players in game situations and provide a broader evaluation than skills testing alone.
Players may be evaluated on areas including skating, puck skills, hockey sense, positioning, decision-making, compete and overall effectiveness within game play.
What Happens After Scrimmages?
This is where the process differs between House and Tier.
House Evaluations
Following the completion of House scrimmages, the draft will take place. There are no Black & White games for House evaluations. Team formation is completed in accordance with applicable MJMHA policies. Once teams have been finalized, families will receive their team information through TeamLinkt.
Tier Evaluations
Following Tier skills and scrimmage evaluations, selected players will advance to Black & White games. Black & White games are the final evaluation stage for Tier. Players selected to participate will be assigned to their Black & White team through TeamLinkt.
Not every player participating in Tier evaluations will advance to a Black & White game.
Drafts/team selection will take place immediately following the applicable Black & White games.
Black & White Games
Black & White games are used for Tier evaluations only.
They provide a final game-evaluation opportunity before Tier teams are selected.
Players who advance to a Black & White game will receive their assignment through TeamLinkt.
Depending on the applicable level, players may participate in:

A Black & White Games
Because each stage depends on the results of the previous stage, families should monitor TeamLinkt closely during this portion of evaluations.
Players who are unsuccessful in securing a Tier roster position will automatically proceed to House team placement.
Players No Longer Evaluate Twice.
Players participating in Tier evaluations do not also complete the House evaluation process. Their Tier evaluation results will carry forward for House team placement if they are not selected to a Tier team.This means a player who is unsuccessful in Tier will automatically enter the House team-placement process without having to repeat skills sessions or scrimmage evaluations.
Third-Party Evaluators
For the 2026–27 season, all Tier and House player evaluations will be completed by third-party evaluators provided by Hockey Saskatchewan.
Evaluators assess players throughout the applicable skills and scrimmage sessions and, for Tier evaluations, Black & White games.
Evaluation scores are recorded through SkillShark and are used throughout the evaluation process.
MJMHA's team formation and roster-selection procedures are governed by the Association's applicable policies. Families looking for information regarding roster composition or team-formation requirements should refer to those policies.
Missed Evaluation Sessions
Players are expected to attend all evaluation sessions to which they are assigned.
MJMHA does not provide make-up evaluation sessions.
If a player misses an assigned evaluation session, an additional session will not be scheduled or provided to replace it.
Families should therefore carefully review their player's TeamLinkt schedule throughout the evaluation period.
TeamLinkt & Evaluation Communication
TeamLinkt will be MJMHA's primary method of communicating individual evaluation information to families.
Throughout evaluations, families may receive TeamLinkt notifications when their player is:
assigned to a skills group;
assigned to a scrimmage team;
selected for a Black & White game;
moved to another stage of Tier evaluations; or
assigned to their team.
Because the evaluation process moves quickly — particularly once Black & White games begin — families should monitor TeamLinkt and the email address associated with their TeamLinkt account regularly.
Players may be added to different groups or teams as evaluations progress. Seeing a player's TeamLinkt team change during evaluations is normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will skills groups be released?
Skills groups will be released closer to the evaluation dates for each division. Families will receive their player's assignment through TeamLinkt.
How many skills sessions will my player attend?
Each evaluation group has one skills session.
Why don't I have my player's scrimmage team yet?
Scrimmage teams are created after skills evaluations so that the evaluation results can be used to create balanced teams. They therefore cannot be finalized in advance.
Who is evaluating the players?
For the 2026–27 season, Hockey Saskatchewan is providing third-party evaluators for all Tier and House evaluations.
Are goaltenders evaluated during skills?
Yes. Goaltenders participate in the skills sessions and are evaluated throughout both the skills and scrimmage portions of evaluations.
Does House have Black & White games?
No. Black & White games are for Tier evaluations only.
House players proceed from skills evaluations to scrimmages and then into the House draft/team-placement process.
What happens if my player doesn't make Tier?
Players who are unsuccessful in securing a Tier roster position automatically proceed to House team placement.
They do not need to register for or complete a separate House evaluation.
How will I know if my player has advanced to a Black & White game?
Players selected for Black & White games will be assigned through TeamLinkt. Families should monitor TeamLinkt closely as evaluations progress.
Where can I find information about how teams and rosters are formed?
Team formation and roster requirements are governed by MJMHA policy. Please refer to the applicable policies posted on the MJMHA website.
A Few Important Reminders
Check TeamLinkt regularly. Individual evaluation assignments and roster updates will be communicated there.
Attend every assigned evaluation session. Make-up sessions are not available.
Do not read into initial skills groups. They are evaluation groups, not team projections or rankings.
Scrimmage teams won't be available immediately. They are created after skills evaluations are completed.
Tier players do not need to complete House evaluations. Players unsuccessful in Tier automatically proceed to House team placement.
Black & White games are Tier only.
