Coach Certification & Clinic Information (2026-2027)

Step 1 – Determine Your Requirements

Certification requirements vary depending on:

  • Age Division (U7-U18)

  • Level of Play (AA, A, B, House)

Step 2 – Register for Your Clinics

All coaching clinics must be registered for online through Hockey Saskatchewan using your Spordle Account.

2026-2027 Coaching Updates

The Shift Forward

Hockey Saskatchewan has replaced Respect in Sport (RIS) with a new online course called The Shift Forward.

  • Coaches who have already completed Respect in Sport are grandfathered until June 1, 2028.

  • After that date, all coaches will be required to complete The Shift Forward.

Development 1 Clinic

The on-ice portion has been removed.

Development 1 now consists of:

  • In-person classroom session only


Previous Coaching Updates

Checking Certification (2025-2026)

The on-ice portion of Checking Certification has been removed.

Checking Certification is now:

  • 100% online


Hockey Canada Learning Lab (2024-2025)

Hockey Saskatchewan transitioned coach education to the Hockey Canada Learning Lab, replacing the former Hockey University platform.

Benefits include:

  • Single sign-on through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR)

  • Improved online learning experience

  • Downloadable audio versions of course material

Certification Pathways

Many coaching certifications require prerequisite online training before you can register for the classroom or clinic portion.

Important Reminder

  • All certifications must be completed by December 20 each season.

  • Register early—many clinics reach capacity.

  • Coaches without the required certifications by the deadline will not be eligible to coach in Hockey Saskatchewan Provincial Playoffs.
